SHEPARD DESIGN

Classic popular grommet design for easy insertion, adequate ventilation and short term duration.
Available in Fluoroplastic, Silicone, and Polyethylene.
All tubes are blue except for Fluoroplastic (white).
Also available with or without wire (for Fluoroplastic).

SHAH DESIGN

Similar to Shepard design with extended tab or wire on outer flange to facilitate insertion.
Addition of "Shoehorn"/elongated tongue on inner flange allows smaller incision and easier insertion and helps prevent early extrusion.

SHEEHY / COLLAR BUTTON DESIGN

Classic collar button design with symmetrical flanges.
Larger inner diameter reduces here chance of blockage.
For long-term ventilation in treatment of chronic serious otitis media.

DONALDSON DESIGN

Popular ventilation tube due to its straightforward design which resists extrusion.
Silicone material offers elasticity for easy insertion.
Available with or without integral tab.

PAPARELLA DESIGN

● Unique design of notched inner flange facilitates insertion through simple "twist-in" movement.
● Very stable for long-term implantation. Integral tab for removal with forceps.
● Available are Type I and Type II.
● Type II is a long-term design similar to the short-term Type I.
● Type II has large inner flange allowing easy placement and 1.5mm inner diameter to help prevent blockage.

REUTER DESIGN

● Proven long-term design with excellent history of providing extended duration of middle ear ventilation compared to standard short-term tubes.

ARMSTRONG DESIGN

● Made of polyethylene or fluoroplastic.
● Beveled inner flange is angled to fit the tympanic membrane and resist premature extrusion.
● Available are original Plain End Type and Grommet Type with outer flange which helps prevent migration into middle ear.
● For long-term ventilation.

T-TUBE DESIGN

● Proven to be the most popular long-term tube.
● The T-flange and long shaft design keep the tube firmly positioned giving the surgeon complete control over length of ventilation time.
● The silicone material allows soft flanges to collapse easily for introduction through a very small incision and safe and comfortable removal at any time.
● Tecfen T-tubes can be easily trimmed to adapt to the surgeon's needs.
● Also features are pre-trimmed T-tubes for convenience.

OTOLOGICAL VENTILATION
(TYMPANOSTOMY) TUBES

T-GROMMET DESIGN

● New design has the advantages of both the T-tube and the Grommet-style tube for long-term use.
● The body is a short grommet style which generally will not extrude prematurely.

Standard, 4mm Flanges

General Information

Description

Otological Ventilation tubes are designed for easy placement through the tympanic membrane to ventilate the middle ear space, and, if present, drain accumulations of fluid from the middle ear.

These tubes act as ventilation devices allowing a free exchange of air between the outer ear and middle ear space, equalizing the air pressure on both sides. When fluid is present, the ventilation tubes can also act as drain devices allowing fluid to drain from the middle ear space to the external auditory canal.

These tubes are available in a variety of designs, sizes and materials to best suit the doctor's preference and need.

Materials used

The materials used to manufacture Tecfen Ventilation Tubes are Silicone, Fluoroplastic, and Polyethylene. These materials have long histories of use as implanted medical devices. They are known for their smoothness of texture, inertness, biocompatibility, and effectiveness for both short- and long-term middle ear drainage and ventilation.

The color of Tecfen Silicone and Polyethylene Tubes are blue, and Tecfen Fluoroplastic Tubes are white.

Sterility

Sterilization of these tubes is by ethylene oxide gas under a tested, controlled cycle. Each lot is tested for sterility in accordance with United States Pharmacopeia guidelines.

Packaging

Sterilized Products:
Tecfen Tubes are normally supplied sterile one each in an inner gelatin capsule. The secondary package is a Tyvek/Polymer peel open pouch, multilingual and with lot number.
An outer box is used to store 10 individually packed sterile tubes.
Non-Sterile Products:
Non-Sterile Tubes are available in bulk, in small polyethylene bags.

Sterilization/Resterilization

All Fluoroplastic and Silicone Tubes may be sterilized or resterilized by any commonly accepted method. Polyethylene tubes should be sterilized or resterilized by gas or cold sterilization solutions only.
